Structured Wiring Standards

Cat6A to every room is minimum standard. Supports 10 Gigabit speeds up to 100 meters.

Central Equipment Rack Location

Priority locations:

  1. Climate-controlled utility room with ventilation
  2. Garage (insulated wall)
  3. Large closet with dedicated cooling

Requirements: 6x3 feet wall space, dedicated 20-amp circuit, ventilation, cable access to attic.

2 Cat6A at TV wall, surround sound pre-wire (5.1 or 7.1), conduit for HDMI, recessed outlets, lighting control wiring.

Bedrooms

2 Cat6A, motorized shade wiring at windows, in-ceiling speaker pre-wire, smart thermostat C-wire.

Home Office

4 Cat6A minimum, dedicated access point, conduit to rack, separate electrical circuit.

Kitchen

2 Cat6A, in-ceiling speaker pre-wire, under-cabinet lighting control, outlets for smart appliances.
